The Labour Research Fund (AFF) at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration was in Uganda in March conducting a Training of Trainers for Female Future Uganda consultants. The AFF has been working with NHO’s Female Future programme providing the leadership development module of the Female Future cycle to participants here in Norway.

AFF has partnered yet again with NHO as the Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE), NHO’s sister organisation, adapts the Female Future programme. The one week training session in Leadership Development skills was conducted at Bugolobi Lodge in Kampala.

Nine consultants from Coach Africa, the local supplier of this module in Uganda, were given training by Senior Consultants Jennybeth Ekeland and Tonje Tønsberg of AFF. The course participants were very inspired and motivated with the skills imparted by AFF. AFF’s emphasis on tools such as ‘Role Analysis’,’ learning groups,’  ‘career development plan’ and issues surrounding ‘managing expectations,’ saw the participants introduced to a broader and deeper understanding of a leader’s role. Fatmah Nsereko, FUE’s Female Future Uganda coordinator, stated that “the leadership development training of trainers has really made a difference to our perspective about ourselves and I am sure this training will enhance the female future program.”

AFF explained that the main objective of this module is to assist women develop their leadership skills by tapping into their strengths. Participants are encouraged to engage with other participants  in learning groups and to network more consciously.

The Female Future Uganda programme is expected to start with its first cycle of Uganda participants in July 2011. FUE is now in the process of recruiting interested women leaders, from the private sector, the public sector and self-employed entrepreneurs.
