With the blessing of BI Business School, NHO’s Kari Minge accompanied by the Private Sector Development Secretariat’s representative Marvis Bordvik were in Uganda last week from the 3rd to the 9th of September to train the trainers of Female Future participants on Board Competence.
11 trainers attended the workshop and the intensive 4 day program was packed with rich exchange of information on the different challenging aspects of Board Competence.
Trainers from the Institute of Corporate Governance Uganda were among the 11 participants who attended the workshop; also present at the workshop were the 3 representatives from the Federation of Uganda Employers, Rosemary Ssenabulya Executive Director for FUE, David Lukwago and Fatmah Nsereko as well as the director of Coach Africa and the legal affairs manager at Capital Markets Authority in Uganda CMA.
“It is important for us to train as many trainers as we can in this module, so as to have a reliable and solid pool of resources when we need them” remarks Fatmah Nsereko, the Female Future coordinator from FUE.
Kari Minge took the consultants through different aspects of Board Competence. Among others such topics as Theoretical Perspectives, Financial Perspectives and Board Ethics were covered. The trainers were presented with cases which they analyzed based on the content of the presentations. Interesting discussions came up on how to adapt the content for the Female Future participants.
The 5 day module on Board Competence will be delivered to the Female Future participants in November and December and thereafter 16 Female Future participants from the first intake will graduate and be awarded with certificates.
While in Uganda Kari Minge had a meeting with Joanita Sittenda Najuka who heads the project, Kerwada. Joanita has shown interest in being a participant to the Female Future Program next year. Therefore the two ladies discussed the possibility of funding from the NHO’s Special Committe for Education and Development Fund where Kari is the Senior Advisor.
Joanita expressed the desire to be part of Female Future and mentioned some of the reasons why it is important for her to take part in the program. It is important for Joanita to be part of Female Future, in her role as CEO of the women project she needs to work closely with other women as well as businesses and Female Future will enable her to network and acquire the necessary expertise to manage the projects well.
