Reduced NOx emissions are the primary objective of the Environmental Agreement relating to NOx and the Business Sector’s NOx Fund. The Fund is a cooperative effort where Participant enterprises may apply for financial support for NOx reducing measures. Payments made to the Fund shall replace the governmental NOx tax for Participant enterprises. The NOx fund is established by 15 cooperating business organisations.
The Norwegian NOx obligation for 2010 in the Gothenburg Protocol has not been met. Without the NOx Fund the emissions of NOx in 2010 would have been even higher
The company Buksér og Berging will have their two new tugs operating on gas. The two boats will be running to Kårstø for Statoil.
The European Commission will explore ways to encourage the industry and public sector to set-up a fund - similar to the Norwegian NOx Fund - to stimulate abatement technology, research etc.
The Ministry of Finance decided June 16th 2011 to change the regulation on fiscal NOx tax so that reporting and payment of NOx emission shall be on quarterly basis.
On 19th May 2011 the EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) approved the Environmental Agreement on NOx 2011-2017, and the Environmental Agreement has entered into force.
The new Environmental Agreement for the period 2011-2017 focuses on long lasting measures. Thus the new support rates for such measures are considerably higher.
The NOx Fund grants financial support to measurements of NOx emissions from ships and movable rigs implemented in 2011 and 2012.
Enterprises may join the Environmental Agreement on NOx 2011-2017 by submitting the Participant Agreement.
On 14 December 2010, 15 business organisations signed the new Environmental Agreement on NOx with further reductions of 16 000 tonnes of NOx for the period 2011-2017.
The NOx Fund can now document that the emission obligations for 2007, 2008 and 2009 laid down in the Environmental Agreement on NOx have been met.
