When Working Life Becomes Part of National Preparedness Trust, Cooperation and Resilience in Uncertain Times

Scandic Hell, Forsvarskonferansen

In a more uncertain security environment, national resilience is about more than defence capabilities. It also depends on strong businesses, a well-functioning labour market, trusted institutions and the ability of the public and private sectors to work together when it matters most.

Norway and Finland share many of the same strengths: high levels of trust, strong institutions and close cooperation between employers, employees and government. But Finland's long-standing approach to comprehensive security and preparedness also offers valuable lessons.

What can Norway learn from the Finnish mindset – and how can businesses, trade unions and public authorities work even more closely to strengthen our collective resilience?

As part of Forsvarskonferansen, the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) and the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) invite you to a side event exploring the role of working life and social partnership in strengthening national preparedness and resilience.

Programme

Part 1 – Lessons from Finland
Representatives from Finnish business and trade unions will share their perspectives on how working life contributes to national resilience in Finland, and how public-private cooperation is organised and put into practice.

Part 2 – What can Norway learn?
NHO and LO will join a panel discussion with invited guests, tentatively including defense minister Tore Sandvik and Louise Dedichen.

Together, they will explore what Norway can learn from the Finnish approach, and how trust, cooperation and a strong labour market can become an even more integral part of national preparedness.

The discussion will be facilitated by TBC

Part 3 – Dialogue with the audience
The session concludes with questions and reflections from the audience.

Key questions

  • How do social partnership and high levels of trust strengthen societal resilience?
  • What can Norwegian working life learn from Finland's preparedness and resilience mindset?
  • How can the public and private sectors cooperate more effectively when security, preparedness and value creation are increasingly interconnected?
  • What role should businesses and employees play in Norway's total defence and preparedness efforts?

Who should attend?

The event is particularly relevant for business leaders, policymakers, public-sector decision-makers, trade unions, employers' organisations and others working with security, preparedness and resilience.

Join us for one hour of Nordic perspectives, practical insights and discussion on how working life can strengthen society's ability to prepare, adapt and respond in uncertain times.

This event is done in cooperation between NHO Trøndelag and LO Trøndelag.
